An approach has been developed for the creation of nanosecond pulse generators with an all-solid-state switching system using thyristors or transistors in the input unit, magnetic switches in the intermediate energy compression stage, and a semiconductor opening switch based on SOS diodes in the final power amplifier. The generators developed have the following range of output parameters: voltage pulse amplitude 50 kV – 1 MV, pulse current 1–10 kA, peak power 100 MW to 6 GW, pulse duration 3–60 ns, pulse repetition frequency from hundreds Hz to units kHz.
