The group of dielectric physics is formed by a doctor of technical sciences, a Corresponding Member of the RAS Vershinin Yury Nikolaevich. The scientific topics of researches are the processes of electrical breakdown of dielectrics in the nanosecond exposure time range and the physical phenomena accompanying the breakdown. Initially, researches were aimed at studying the dynamics of the anode breakdown of solid dielectrics and its mechanism, called electronic detonation. In the framework of this direction, the group conducted a series of studies within the framework of the program “Physics of Extreme State of Matter” of the JIHT RAS. Currently, the research topic has expanded and includes studies of breakdown in liquids and discharge across the surface of dielectrics in a vacuum. The group actively cooperates with the developers of promising electrojet low-thrust impulse engines of the Research Institute of Mechanical Engineering of Roskosmos.
